{"id":253,"date":"2012-08-28T09:58:27","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T13:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregoryfrost.wordpress.com\/?p=253"},"modified":"2015-09-28T00:51:06","modified_gmt":"2015-09-27T19:51:06","slug":"dead-can-still-dance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregoryfrost.com\/?p=253","title":{"rendered":"DEAD CAN STILL DANCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If I must find an adjective for Sunday night\u2019s concert by the reformed Dead Can Dance at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, it is <em>\u201crapturous.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 A hall that ended up packed (some people obviously thought the opening act by David Kuckhermann, a member of the troupe who specializes in the percussive Swiss instrument, the Hang, would last at least 45 minutes or an hour instead of 20 minutes).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard were in fine, fine voice, and the other four musicians nailed every single moment, hit every note, thundered through Middle Eastern, African, Greek, and who knows how many other rhythms and flows of sound.\u00a0 They performed their new album, <em>Anastasis<\/em>, in its entirety. (The word is Greek for \u201cresurrection,\u201d which seems most fitting for this incarnation of DCD.) Afterwards they slid through everything from Perry\u2019s definitive \u201cThe Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove\u201d to Gerrard\u2019s transcendant theme from the film <em>Gladiator<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Kuckhermann\u2019s versatile percussion, there was Astrid Williamson on keyboards and backing vocals, who did stellar work deserving a lot of praise. She\u2019s working in the shadow of the artistry of Gerrard, so I want to give her a lot of praise for her contributions.
